Characteristics and features of cultivation

The sorcerer is a very popular variety in Russia. Partly because it tolerates heat and drought well, partly because it tastes great. The pulp does not darken under the influence of heat treatment, and during cooking it shows good crumbling.

The fruits are not prone to physical deformation, so they do an excellent job with transportation. Coupled with keeping quality and a pleasant looking look, these qualities make the Wizard an excellent variety for sales. Potatoes keep well. Read more on our website about the terms, temperatures and places for storing potatoes, about possible problems. And also about how to store root crops in winter, in vegetable stores and in an apartment, in a cellar and on a balcony, in boxes, in a refrigerator and peeled.

Another plus is unpretentiousness to the choice of soil... It can be planted in almost any soil, it is enough just to observe a few basic rules of this process:

  • About a month before planting, the planting material must be placed in a warm and lighted place so that the tubers have time to germinate well;
  • If you want to get a better harvest in the shortest possible time, sprouted tubers can be treated with growth stimulants, for example, "Mival";
  • The soil in which your roots will be planted should be warmed up to 6 - 8 ° C (depending on the region, the planting date may vary between the end of April and the beginning of May);
  • The planting pattern is 60 × 35, and the digging depth is about 10 cm.

IMPORTANT! The powerful root system of the Sorcerer helps him to endure drought, and in general, during the growth period, he will need no more than 4 - 5 waterings. Also, the Sorcerer perfectly tolerates frequent rains, which can adversely affect the quality of tubers of other varieties.

In the future, your plants will not need much care and will mainly be the standard methods of caring for this crop. The main thing is not to forget about loosening the soil and eliminating weeds.

As for the first feeding, it is carried out together with the first hilling of the tops, and nitrogen-containing substances are used as the fertilizer itself.

In general, the agricultural technology of this variety is not difficult, follow the basic procedures, do not forget about mulching and feeding, and you will succeed.

But how to feed potatoes, what are the best fertilizers, what are the benefits of mineral fertilizers, when and how to apply them and how to do it correctly when planting, read our articles.

Diseases and pests

Late blight

The immunity of this variety is also quite decent. Provides protection to the plant against viruses A and Y, late blight and potato cancer. However, it provides little protection against golden nematode worms.

It helps well in the fight against this pest correct crop rotation, in which it is recommended to include legumes and grains. Of the chemical means of control, Nematorin copes better than others, which must be introduced into the soil even before planting.

Among insect pests, Colorado beetles and their larvae, bears, wireworms, and potato moths are especially troublesome for gardeners.
